Microstructure and oxidation resistance of Pd+Zr and Pd+Hf co-doped aluminide coatings deposited on Mar-M247 nickel superalloy

نویسندگان

چکیده

Pd+Zr and Pd+Hf co-doped aluminide coatings were deposited on the Mar-M247 nickel superalloy by palladium electroplating followed zirconizing-aluminizing or hafnizing-aluminizing processes. Both consisted of two zones, outer interdiffusion one build ?-(Ni,Pd)Al phase. Hafnium zirconium formed inclusions that precipitated at border zones close to surface (only in Zr+Pd modified coating). Oxidation resistance coating was significantly better than one. content could exceed value.

Rhodium and Hafnium Influence on the Microstructure, Phase Composition, and Oxidation Resistance of Aluminide Coatings

A 0.5 μm thick layer of rhodium was deposited on the CMSX 4 superalloy by the electroplating method. The rhodium-coated superalloy was hafnized and aluminized or only aluminized using the Chemical vapour deposition method. A comparison was made of the microstructure, phase composition, and oxidation resistance of three aluminide coatings: nonmodified (a), rhodium-modified (b), and rhodiumand ha...

Cyclic oxidation behavior of uncoated and aluminum-rich nickel aluminide coated Rene-80 superalloy

In this study, aluminide coating was employed to enhance the high-temperature cyclic oxidation of Rene-80 superalloy at 950ºC. The microstructural aspects and phase constituents of samples were  investigated with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and x-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. The result of oxidation tests showed that the weight gain in the uncoated sample was considerably higher than...

Cyclic oxidation-induced cracking of platinum-modified nickel-aluminide coatings

Short cracks, extending to the interdiffusion zone, have been observed in platinum-modified nickel-aluminide diffusion coatings on single-crystal CMSX-4 superalloys after these have been subject to short (10 min) rapid thermal cycles. The cracks were revealed after removing the thermally grown oxide formed during cycling on the coating surfaces. Cracking was observed for coatings subject to the...

Microstructure and Properties of Iron Aluminide Coatings

Corrosion-resistant coatings based on the iron aluminide intermetallic compound Fe3Al are currently being investigated for fossil energy applications. Fe3Al possesses excellent intrinsic high-temperature oxidation and sulfidation resistance, and a significant effort has been made in the development of bulk alloys based on it. While substantial progress has been made, the widespread use of these...

Nickel Base Superalloy Rene®80 – The Effect of High Temperature Cyclic Oxidation on Platinum-Aluminide Coating Features

Nickel base superalloy alloys are used in the manufacture of gas turbine engine components, which in use are exposed to high temperatures and corrosive environments. The platinum aluminide coatings described here have been developed to protect nickel base superalloy alloys from oxidation. In this study, the effect of cyclic oxidation, platinum layer thickness and aluminizing process on beha...
